The whole world is expecting Apple to unveil the iPhone 5
at around the October time, to follow the company’s release pattern
with that of the iPhone 4S. Now imagine the huge shock amongst consumers
if Apple now decides to change that and release the next generation
iPhone a few months early.
Let’s get the good news out of the way first, as the Galaxy S III be
arriving on Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and US Cellular sometime
in June. There’s no set release date yet unfortunately, but we do know
that the ‘starting’ price for the device will be $199 on contract –
although some other carriers may vary.
It means that we shouldn’t have any problems regarding stock issues
that have plagued other Samsung devices launching in the US in previous
years. It will essentially come down to which carrier suits you the most
and of course, which one offers
the most incentives for you to secure their purchase. You can bet that
the likes of Sprint, Verizon and AT&T will all be conjuring up plans
right now to make their version of the device the most appealing and it
can only mean good things for the consumer in terms of value for money.
Another piece of good news is that we can confirm that the US version
will be getting 2GB of RAM as well. You may remember that we recently reported on the fact that Canada was getting the 2GB RAM upgrade as well after it was first confirmed for Japan.
While that is obviously great news, there is a bit of potential
disappointment for those that are not aware of the processor change.
Just like the HTC One X, the US version of the Galaxy S3 will only be
getting a 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor – not the quad-core
Samsung built Exynos processor that the International Galaxy S3 has.
Although it is widely believed that LTE incompatibility is the sole
reason behind this move, Samsung has yet to officially confirm this as
the case.
At the end of the day though, a dual-core processor shouldn’t stop
you from picking up this device as it will still be the best Android
phone out on the market regardless. The main question that you should be
asking yourselves now is – which carrier suits you best? Signal
reception is going to be key of course, but customer service also plays
just as big a part in a consumer’s deciding factor.
